Our association

The association consists of members who fish mainly for lobsters and whelks in the waters around Dumfries & Galloway in southwest Scotland. We have members based in Kirkcudbright, Garlieston, Isle of Whithorn, Portwilliam, Drummore, Stranraer and Ballantrae Originally established to combat the threat of 'super crabbers' moving into the area endangering stocks the association has grown over the years. The members were prime movers in establishing the voluntary code of conduct with local scallop fishermen who fish the same waters during winter months and we continue to work alongside mobile gear colleagues. The association recently secured EMFF support for purchasing Personal Flotation Devices and Personal Locating Beacons from Marine Scotland/Dumfries and Galloway Fisheries Local Action Group and match funding from Seafarers UK. This has enabled us to provide PFDs/PLBs for 44 fishermen, greatly enhancing their safety.
